橋を渡り、ゆるやかな坂道を登ってふと振り返ると、宇陀の山々の連なりが広がっていました。 墨坂神社は、疫病が流行った頃、第10代崇神天皇が創建した神社。この記述は古事記や日本書記にも記され、日本最古の健康の神を祀るともいわれる由緒深い神社だそう。 街の近くに位置する神社ですが、橋を渡って宇陀川を超えるだけで空気が神聖なものに変わる気がします。 お水で手を清めて鳥居をくぐると、朱色の立派なお社が現れます。三連の建物が廊下でつながった姿は印象的です。奥に進むと龍王宮の横に湧水があり、これが「御神水の「波動水」で「名水・やまとの水」にも認定されています。お水を汲んで、御神前や御霊前に供えると良いのだとか。ほかにも、山の神や祓戸の神なども祀られています。 丘の上に建っているので眺めがよく、時折気持ちのいい風が抜けていきます。神聖な場所特有の澄んだ空気のなかで手を合わせると、心がすっと穏やかになっていくようです。
